Joseph Gilles - Partner

Joe is the senior partner at Giles Payne. He was admitted on 26 July 1974. After almost two years with the firm of Kelly Boyd and Ward in Wellington, New South Wales, he moved to Giles Payne and Co. where he commenced employment in April 1976 with Robert Giles and Leonard Payne.

After learning his profession in all areas of law, he drifted towards property and commercial law and he became a specialist in business law and property law in 1993.

He regularly delivers papers on Easements and Leasing especially the Retail Leases Act for the College of Law and other MCLE providers

He has a strong interest in commercial arrangements and succession planning, family trusts, unit trusts, hybrid trusts, business structures and taxation law. He has been a fellow of The Taxation Institute of Australia for more than twenty five years.

He helped structure the Family Bank to enable families to increase their wealth as a group.

He is a member of the Port Hacking Management Panel, which oversees the use of Port Hacking.

His favourite Monday work is to write letters to Federal and State Government and Local Government, drawing their attention to deficiencies in their systems.

Joe received his degree from the University of Sydney and was once, and is keen to return to being, a single figure handicap golfer at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney.

He is proud of the fact that Giles Payne and Co. has provided excellent legal services to the community since 1965, and his goal is to ensure it continues to deliver a high level of service and advice to the firm's varied clients.
